Hazy days
The haze is back. The Indonesians are burning their jungle and plantations again. There are a few fires here also. So the air cleanliness index is up and in some places it is reaching unhealthy and dangerous levels. The schools are out today in KL. From my office I can’t even see the KLCC or the KL tower. It’s bad. Take a step outside and you can smell something burnt in the air. A short time outside and my eyes begin to water.
To put it simply, the entire nation is not too happy with our Indonesian neighbors at the moment. On the other hand, I can’t help but think that we have a hand in this because the poor farmers are clearing their land in the cheapest way available to them because they are trying to maximize their income. They do this so that they can keep their products as cheap as possible and their main customers are Malaysians. So in a way we are responsible for the situation also because we are the ultimate gainers from their irresponsible acts.
