Blogging Ramadan: Day 28

Ramadan is about to end. There is only one or two days of fasting left. On Saturday the religious leaders will gather at the observation sites to determine that the moon has indeed entered a specific phase signalling the beginning of the Shawal month. If they fail to see the moon, they will rely on hisab (calculations) to determine the beginning of Syawal.
For the unitiated, Eid means celebration and Fitri comes from Fitrah which refers to a state of being: the state of being as we are supposed to be: our natural state if you will.
Has the fasting ended then? No. Only obligatory has. The Prophet PBUH also fasts on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. So it is recommended tgat we do the same.  So to those who ask why we don't fast all year round if fasting is good for us, the fact is we do. We just didn't tell you about it.
