We are political animals

Malaysians love to mindlessly politicize everything under the sun: from the biggest of problems to the tiniest itches. Politics first used in 1520s to mean "science of government," taken from the name of one of Aristotle's books on governing and governments, ta politika "affairs of state". It is supposed to refer to the science of good sense, or common sense, applied to the ever changing domain of public affairs. In the Aristotlean perspective this “thing” is better described as a business strategy than a science, per se, in that he does not advocate fixed principles because of constant changes and the fluidity of human affairs.
By 1769, it came to mean, "a person's political allegiances or opinions". By 1550s, "pertaining to a polity, civil affairs, or government" and by 1749 it took on the pejorative meaning of "taking sides in party politics". History tells us that by 1860, we had our firsrt political prisoner and Hume wrote on political science in 1779. Our German friends then gave us the term realpolitik to refer to “practical politics” which entails a kind of political thinking that is more open and welcoming to ideological variation.
In 1954 Eisenhower spoke of “the Domino principle” which later became known as the “Domino theory” during the Cold War.
A very important word to Malaysian politics, “Anti” was born in 1788 when they talked about the anti-federalists in US politics, of course you know what happened after than. Then in the 1830s ‘anti’ was used in writing about the Anti-Masonic party.
The term “centrist” became popular in 1872 when it was borrowed the French centriste, which was much used when they discusses the French politics of the 1923s.
Another extremely important word in Malaysian politics, opportunist, came in 1881 from Italian opportunismo
Another favourite word in Malaysia is doctrine which came in the1820s from the French doctrinaire which referred to an "impractical person" who holds blindly to ‘doctrines’. This is from the Latin doctrina. They initially used the word to talk about overly idealistic people who were trying to fit everything to their interest and royal authority, was back in 1815.
Interestingly the term condominium (c.1714) is a political term which meant, "joint rule or sovereignty" from the Latin com - "together" and dominum - "right of ownership". the word became used to mean apartments in 1962 American when they needed a term for their legal contracts.
Malaysian politics is generally known to be partisan politics. It really means people who gather with other over zealous people and it same from the Tuscan Italian word partigiano meaning "member of a faction, partner," from parte "part, party" which in turn comes the Latin partem meaning ‘part of’.
In 1928, they introduced a term that you will never use in Malaysian politics, depoliticize. I won’t even bother describing it.
