To fluch or not to flush

19th November 15, 2005 is World toilet day.
Like most people I never knew there was such a thing as world toilet day let alone an organization called World Toilet Organization until my wife sent me an sms on my way to work this morning. She was watching the morning show talk show on tv and they were talking about it. After the predictable preliminary laugh or two, I got to thinking that it really makes sense to have both an organization and a world toilet day.
Consider these:
You and all have gone to the toilet thousands of times in our lives and if we live long enough we will be going thousand times more. Each time we go we probably will produce a significant amount of excrement and urine. These, if piled up and contained, will probably produce a significant mound, and even more noticable, stink. Thankfully, these things are bio-recyclable and reusable. Someone has got to consider the logistics and problems of handling this inescapable pile that we so happily accumulate daily.
More importantly, because everyone uses some form of toilet and we probably do not want to have little piles of waste in the corner of our rooms, the toilet industry is a lucrative one. Bowls, piping, the necessary chemicals, the technology that flushes things away and the chemicals that take the smell away all have to be manufactured. There is money to be made here and when there is money there is industry. Someone has to come up with regulations and standards that make our morning relief that much more pleasant.
I have not gone yet this morning so later today when I do go later today, I FLUSH IN SALUTE TO THE TOILET MANUFACTURERS OF THE WORLD.
