The Americans and their allies have started attacking Iraq: it is the equivalent of a bully calling several of his friends to commence kicking and hitting another bully, but a lesser one, when the latter is down. Bush calls Saddam a dictator, yet in his heyday, you cross Saddam you pay with your life, reputedly. With Bush, you cross him; you pay with your life, those of your family and those of your countrymen, women and children. The Americans are right. Bush is not a dictator, to call him one would be to wrongly accuse dictators of crimes they did not commit.
Here the people are still trying to come to grips with the enormity of this arrogance they are witnessing. It is arrogance beyond anything they had ever imagined. Well, maybe not that they haven’t imagined it, they probably have but we just never thought it would be so open. This is colonial empire building all over again but this time with people watching and many intelligently. The last time this happened, the natives mostly were illiterate but his time they can watch events via satellite.
On the more local front, local news are taking second place even the horror of a case where this man had raped his daughter who was suffering from leukemia did not steer people from the war news. I guess some people are just sick; it is just that the positions they occupy in life are different. One is a fisherman and the other is a president of the United States.
